Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Erfan

Hi, my name is Erfan and I'm an architect and 3D visualizer and currently I'm living in Iran, but I'm just about to migrate to the UK or maybe Germany for living. At first, I have to say thanks to the 3dtotal community for giving me this opportunity to introduce myself to the CG community and I appreciate it. I've always liked 3D modeling and visualization and I've always wanted to be a member of this community. Currently I'm working as a freelance 3D artist most of the time and actually when I graduated from architectural art university, then I realized that my main interest was 3D modeling not just architectural design. So I decided to work harder everyday and I started to take a look at the best CG works in the world and use their experience to improve myself, and as I'm talking to you here, I'm still working hard and doing my best to improve myself every day and night.

What was the workflow behind your latest gallery image? Where did the idea come from?

Erfan

Well, actually I wanted to design a cozy dark-style kitchen. A place that when you get in there, you don’t see anything but calm and you can relax there and also on the other hand, I had to design a modern interior with a limited space to design. So I decided to mix the kitchen and living room together somehow to create a simple but complex and eye-caching space (as we all know, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication). Looking to the reference images is always one the best things you can do if you want to achieve the best result. Those reference images can always be an inspiration to you and help you in your design process. But let’s be honest with ourselves, just try to use them as inspiration (you know what I’m saying!)

What challenges did the image present? Did you learn something new?

Erfan

I always try to learn a new stuff when I start to work on new projects. It doesn't matter what that thing is. It could be anything. Sometimes when I work on some projects, I learn so many things about architecture design, and sometimes I learn so many things about 3D arch viz, or just improve some of my basics skills and keep them alive. I guess the most important part in this industry is knowing the basics very well and as we all know, this is the hundred-of-years-to-go path, so you always have to be focused and ready and always try to improve yourself in every aspect of this industry.

Do you use any other software, either for work or personal projects?

Erfan

To be honest, my favorite 3D software is 3ds Max, and my favorite Render engine is Corona Render, but I use other software too: Cinema4D, Revit, ArchiCAD, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer (depending on the project). But as I said, my main software is 3ds Max.

How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?

Erfan

I always look at the best CG work in the whole world and analysis them so I can find out the reasons that make those work the best, and then I’ll try to use those features in my works and improve them every day, and keep them updated as well as making them more realistic.

Are you a member of any social media groups? Any favorite hashtags you check on a daily basis?

Erfan

I used to have an Instagram account but right now I’m not a member of any social media groups. Mostly I try to focus on my job and I guess the social medias are a little bit distracting, as well as making you a well-known person among the other artists but for now, I prefer to not use them, but maybe things will change in the future.

What are your artistic ambitions?

Erfan

I always wanted to work alongside the more experienced CG artists around the world, and improve myself while also helping the CG community as much as I can. I hope I can make that wish happen someday for a greater good.

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Erfan

I’ve always followed two artists' works – Arrimus3D and Artem Gogolov. At first, I was just enjoying the way they were modeling, but after a time, I just learned a lot of modeling techniques from their tutorials and in my opinion, people always have to be so humble and try to learn from more experienced artists. I suggest you strive to do your best but never consider yourself to be the best. If you pay attention to this, you’ll always be successful in your business.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Erfan

To be honest, I don’t know myself (just kidding!) Probably you will see some another interior or exterior design from me because most of my projects are related to the arch-viz industry, but I can assure you that every single project comes with a unique and new and more eye-caching feature. That’s all I can tell you about the next projects for now . Let's be a little bit secretive about what comes next.
