Introduction

Hi! My name is Eugene and I'm a 3D artist from Russia. First of all, big thanks to 3DTotal.com for the possibility to talk about the creation of this work!

This scene is just a small part of a large project, and is a kitchen in a big private residence. While working on a project I got a few free days and decided to concentrate on one room, aiming to make some experiments with different variants of light settings. I did not imagine that at the end of the work I would achieve such nice pictures ... So let's begin!

To get started, I had the drawings for the room, a few sketches, furniture plans and references for furniture, chandeliers, techniques, etc.

Modelling

This is a very important stage in the creation of 3D work, for me. There are two reasons for this. The first is that, by using high quality models we can achieve a good start for the entire project and avoid possible problems in the future. The second reason is that I love modelling and try to give it as much time as I can!

I think that modelling a room is very simple, so there are probably no questions about that. In the images provided you can see some examples for the project models (Fig.01 - 03). I concentrated on the details for models to be able to obtain a complete picture of the scene and to create the necessary mood. I used polygonal modelling techniques for all models. Then I started to create the materials. Here you can see the scene after the first phase (Fig.04).

Materials

Most materials in the scene are very simple. Only the basic material of kitchen furniture has a complex structure (Fig.05). I mixed two materials, using a Vray dirt map. You can see examples of some of the materials which I used in the project in Fig.06. Then I concentrated on the lighting setup.
