How to Paint Multiple Materials with Vertex Paint

When applying multiple materials (mat IDs) to an object, you simply set different Mat.IDs for each polygon and by doing that, you get a sharp transition between these materials. But what if you don't want that? What if you want a smooth transition between your materials?

That's what I am going to show you in this tutorial: how to paint multiple materials with Vertex Paint.

i like this tut,but i have a question .how to show texture in viewport while we paint vertex without render to see result.Because if i paint a few second and then push render like that ,i cant control overall map.hope your answer,sr about my bad English.Have fun

You can also do this using a single material and a composite map in each channel you want to use ( diffuse, bump, displacement ... ). Then put the vertex color in the mask channel of the composite map.

If I want smooth transitions I better use Photoshop than painting with black without seeing anything that I paint.

Unfortunately no. You can assign only map file to VRayDisplacementMod, not all material. But, there may be a solution. I have never tried it, so I'm not 100% sure, it will work: You could assign displacement map to each material individually.
