3dtotal: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?
Vinicius Paciello: Hi! My name is Vinicius Paciello, I'm 26, and ever since 2013 I've been working as a 3D artist, living currently in São Paulo, Brazil.

3dt: What's the story behind your latest gallery entry? Where did the idea come from? What were you trying to achieve with it?
VP: I get a lot of inspiration from movies. David Fincher is one of my favorite directors, so when I watched the Zodiac movie, I had this idea to recreate the scene. The movie is quite good, so when I rewatched it with my girlfriend, I decided to invest the time. As I'm rebuilding my portfolio and trying to get into the VFX/Cinematics industry, I thought that this would be a good start since it covers a lot of the steps of a professional production, from concept to finishing.

3dt: What software and plug-ins did you use to create this image? Did you face any difficulties, and how did you overcome them?
VP: I mainly use 3ds Max and V-Ray, with Photoshop for texturing. In this case I also used ZBrush to model the characters (Zodiac and Paul Stine) and also polypaint them. I did not used Mari at that time. The project itself was quite simple, the whole scene took only five weeks to model. I had not too much trouble with the Zodiac, since its quite defocused in the final image. The hardest thing was to model the interior of the car, due to the lack of references I could find. Its such a specific model and I did not want to mix it with other cars. If I remember correctly, only the steering wheel is from another Galaxy model, because I really liked it.

I'm currently studying Mari and I'm trying to integrate into a solid workflow. Also, I'm trying to explore more software options, going deeper with After Effects and Premiere combo.

3dt: What are your artistic ambitions?
VP: My short-term goal now is pretty much to start in the VFX/Cinematic industry so I can develop a more professional workflow. My long-term goal is basically to be a damn good artist, I don't know why actually. Funny.

3dt: Are you a member of any social media groups? Any favorite hashtags you check on a daily basis?
VP: You can find me on Facebook groups like Ten Thousand Hours and other renderer groups, but I usually participate on Brazilian and Portuguese groups like V-Ray Masters (an official Brazilian V-Ray group) and NimboCG.

3dt: How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?
VP: Actually I'm always working on some personal project, even if I'm a full-time freelance. Not just to update the portfolio itself, but to create and study ideas and techniques. Guess that makes your portfolio always updated. Funny fact is that I've erased it almost entirely and let only the really good ones (the goal is to fill it again with newer and better projects).

3dt: Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?
VP: Well, I started enjoying art when I first saw Erik Johansson and Rob Gonsalves, I still love them. The artists I would consider my favorites change from time to time, but now I consider Marek Denko and Toni Bratincevic the guys who shaped my work, because of their amazing skills to deliver a concept or idea to a stunning image with no troubles. Alex Roman has influenced me a lot as well and his color grading is something that fascinates me every time. Lately, I've been quite impressed with Marcel Haladej, Cornelius Dammrich and Leo Ribeyrolles works. On the 2D side, I love Eve Ventrue and of course the master Kim Jung Gi.

3dt: What can we expect to see from you next?
VP: Right now I'm working on some new stuff and my plan is to gather more projects to build a reel. I don't have any idea about when will it be ready though, but that I believe its my next step, at least for now.
