3dtotal: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?
Sérgio Merêces: Hello, my name is Sérgio Merêces. I am 36 years old and I live in Evora, Portugal. Ive worked as a 3D generalist for over 10 years, where in the last 5 years I have been concentrating on 3D visualizations for architectural studios, real estate companies, and design studios.

3dt: Tell us about your art: Your style, themes, genre, and some of the favorite projects you have worked on.
SM: My artistic style has a dramatic and emotional feeling added to my images, that comes from a set of creative influences of everything that inspires me in on a daily basis. The projects that Ive worked on in the past and best identify my style are Modern House, Gardenian House, Zen Garden and most recently House in New World. These were projects that marked my growth as an artist as well as defined my artistic style that was eventually recognized throughout the arch-viz community.

3dt: Can you describe your typical workflow, and the software/hardware you normally use when creating your artwork?
SM: In my daily workflow, I use 3ds Max, Substance Painter and designer software to create more complex materials. And for render engine I use the V-Ray, and recenty Fstorm as GPU render. Also, very important to mention, are the plugins and tools for 3ds Max that help a lot in the development of 3D scenes like Forest pack, Railclone, and miauu's scripts. For post production I use Photoshop and After Effects. My hardware is a PC built piece by piece by me: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, 48GB ram, SSD, and 2x Nvidia 1080 TI.

3dt: What inspires you?
SM: What inspires me on a daily basis; what helps me at the level of creativity, is listening to music that I like (heavy metal), as well following the works from other great artists and companies in the communities, discovering something that will motivate and inspire us.

3dt: How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?
SM: It is very important that we always have an updated portfolio with good works that can come from our daily projects made for clients or personal projects! Of course there is always a huge difference in quality and creativity when we do personal projects, where we do everything as we like and with time! So it is very important and I recommend arranging for one day of the week where we can leave aside the work for the clients, and that we can focus ourselves on that day on the development of our personal projects. This is good to break our daily routine and to keep us inspired.

3dt: Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?
SM: The artists or companies that inspire me and that I have as reference are the companies like MIR, Brick, Neoscape, who have fabulous works and are full of creativity! As well as other artists, such as Alex Roman, Marek Denko, Jean-Baptiste Monge and David Luong, who for me are outstanding artists and the ones that inspire me! Any work they create is a piece of art! Full of creativity, details, colors, feelings, and a unique vision.

3dt: What can we expect to see from you next?
SM: The next thing for me or any artist is to always think about the next project and look for the vision and inspiration for it. And in the process, we can learn new techniques and methods to use in the development of our projects, and of course the next project can bring something new to the community.
