Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Mohsen

Hi, first of all I want to say a big thanks to the 3dtotal team who have kept this amazing and professional environment up for years, helping many artists around the world to enhance their work, offering motivation with shared work and giving artists the opportunity to share information and knowledge together.

I am an art enthusiastic, illustrator, and master of architecture. I started in this field after beginning with graphic design, working only with Photoshop. It was an untouchable dream for me as we were living in an average family. But I never stop dreaming, until it finally happened and I was heading in the right direction. So I worked day and night, that effort becoming my lifestyle, and the more I worked the less tired I felt.

After a while I felt I could go through the business, and at the beginning I started a small studio with two people, but because of the problems in our country we preferred to keep our career as freelancers, and so far I have done projects for many locations in the world in my small studio. Personally, I believe if people really believe something and dream about it they will reach to it with the right effort. And if your dream is not big enough to scare you than it's not a dream.

What was the workflow behind your latest gallery image? Where did the idea come from?

Mohsen

It was always challenging for me to do the large scale projects, as I think it's challenging for every artist. I never had a chance to do this scale before, so maybe for me it was also fun to discover new things, with a little bit of stress about what if I can't do it very well. But we have to start from somewhere as I did.

I started to collect some references of works already completed to this scale by other artists or photographers, and then I chose my mood and color palette. Also, in some tricky shots, I asked for help from my friends and gained inspiration from some Hollywood movies. In every shot, I used some different technique because for me it was not only about sharing the work, I wanted to learn something new.

What challenges did the image present? Did you learn something new?

Mohsen

The most challenging issue for this large scale image was to control the scene elements and finish what I began, so timing was very important - if you stop working in the middle of the day and leave the rest for tomorrow, it would be like you've forgotten what have you done so far, or what issues you were facing. So time and scene management was very important.

On the other hand, choosing the best angle and finding the best composition was also challenging when you should realize the best light angle, reflection effect, and for the scale you need to show the eye-catching view, in the best possible way. Also, for some shots, understanding the right color grading to composite the render with the image I took was a little bit more time consuming.

Do you use any other software, either for work or personal projects?

Mohsen

On the road of the artistic career you may make some changes from time to time, based on your needs and clients' demand, so like every artist during this working process I might use many software. Maybe in some cases I'd use a software a couple of times and now I even don't remember how to use them again. But during the process with my loyal software I can always point to the 3ds Max, V-Ray, and Photoshop. For other software, I can point to the Quixel collection which helped a lot and made something so easy. Also, Marvelous Designer for some modeling, and Unreal engine, which I plan to go through more in the future.

Are you a member of any social media groups? Any favorite hashtags you check on a daily basis?

Mohsen

There are many Facebook groups that I follow and share my work in, but I'm not a member of any special group that has specific activities like making tutorials or discussing new ideas. I also follow the render engine forums to see what's new or where the rendering process is leading. Also, I check the 3dtotal tutorial section and news. My favorite hashtags for CG which I always see are #3DTotal #Coronarenderer #mattepainting #architecture #art #design #light #colorinmovies #render and #minimalmood.

What are your artistic ambitions?

Mohsen

As any person in their field of work, I also like to improve the quality of my work and achieve the best results, so for this purpose I still study the points which I feel I still need to improve. I love to have my studio and would love to make an opportunity for the next ambitious generation to work in a professional environment, and as I am a teacher also, I love to pave the way for those kind of artists who loves to enhance in their way, so they don't have to face the difficulties I faced during my education.

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Mohsen

Karim Moussa El-Ramly is the artist who I not only learn from, but also because of his behavior and humility and great level of art, is someone I admire. I love the way he makes his images and how he sees the world; his viewpoint in making movies and direction. I think he has the full package.

Csaba Bannati: I love the way he composes his images. It's like he came from another planet and he sees a unique direction for everything. He makes images like the very famous painters, the way he combines colors in an image is incredible.

Pedro Fernandes: I love his technique and I feel he is the birth place of new ideas and creativity. Every single image he makes, gives me more and more to learn.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Mohsen

As I am making an effort every day to improve my work, I'm sure you will see better quality next time, and also I hope after all this quarantine ends one day I will start a bigger studio and begin to follow my goals.
