3dtotal: Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?
Kontorn Boonyanate: I am Kontorn Boonyanate (dongk), and I'm 25 years old. I'm a freelance CG artist that graduated from Rangsit University with a Bachelor Degree of fine art. I have two years experience working with CG.

3dt: Where did you find the inspiration for your latest gallery entry? What's the story behind its creation?
KB: My latest gallery entry is "Octohug". I found inspiration in my pets and the situation where our lovely pets pass away. The image I used to see every single day was my mom hugging them in her arms, so I use that feeling to create this work.

3dt: What software and plug-ins did you use to create this image? Did you face any difficulties, and how did you overcome them?
KB: I used ZBrush, Maya, KeyShot, and Photoshop for creating this project. When I wanted to create the creature, the first problem I had was I didn't know their anatomy, so I had to do a lot of research of references and asking for advice.

3dt: Do you normally use this software in your workflow? What other software and plug-ins do you favour?
KB: For the 3D part I usually use this workflow (ZBrush, Maya and KeyShot). For 2D work I always use Photoshop to create the final image. My favorite software to use is ZBrush where normally I start from a whole shape to see the final image easily. After that, I add the final details.

3dt: What software would you like to learn in the future to expand your portfolio and skillset, and why? What are your artistic ambitions?
KB: I would like to learn MARI because MARI can create the hi-resolution of texture maps that can be used for production work. In the situations that I face every day, I adapt these for inspiring my works, trying to improve myself – don't stop creating new things.

3dt: How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?
KB: When I am working on a new project, I will update my progress online (the low-poly, hi-poly, detailing etc) continuously in my portfolios such as ArtStation and Behance.

3dt: Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and what can we expect to see from you next?
KB: My favorite artist is Thawan Duchanee, who is a famous traditional artist in Thailand.

His paintings are full of emotion and creativity. He inspires me to continue improving my works. In the future, I would like to explore 3D printing.
