Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Gabriel

Hi, my name is Gabriel Dias. I’m a 25-year-old 3D character artist from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. I started studying 3D in 2016 when I entered University and my friend showed me ZBrush, which changed everything for me. However, since I was a child, I have always been connected to art through drawings, paintings and mainly video games. Since 2016, I have been studying and working as a 3D character artist for companies, with a greater focus on triple-A characters for games, with the goal of joining a great game company in the future.

How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?

Gabriel

This is really a subject that I want to talk about because, the focus of my work is on quality, so my idea is always to publish works in which I have evolved in some way more than the previous work. In my mind the quality is more important than consistency, but it is important that one always walks next to the other, so that you can have a more complete portfolio. This is difficult and every day I struggle to achieve balance, so that I can produce more projects and raise the level of my art. Try to do what you like and not what others think, this is important to bring you inspiration and happiness during your journey.

What are your artistic ambitions?

Gabriel

Certainly always improving my art, and learning more and more about new and different things. Join a big studio, and extract and work with incredible people who can help me to be a better artist and a better person every day. Trying to somehow demonstrate my feelings through my art and always be grateful for all the happiness I feel when I do what I love. And that I can somehow help other people through my work.

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Gabriel

I have some that I identify most; Glauco Longhi, Gilberto Magno, Bruno Camara, Rafa Souza, Magdalena Dadela, Rafael Grassetti, and Danilo Athayde. These are my biggest inspirations, both for the artistic style, and incredible work, so much for the way they see art, each in their own way, and more – that they help me to improve my thoughts and attitudes through art.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Gabriel

The production of more real-time characters, through my personal projects, that can demonstrate my feelings in some way, always improving and trying to learn new things with the next project. One thing I'm really struggling to achieve is to increase the consistency of projects, to improve the portfolio and in the future with a lot of effort, to be able to work on an important game – for me, that would bring me joy and happiness.
