Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Fillipe

My name is Fillipe Farias. I am passionate about digital art and I am 27 years old. I'm from Manaus, Brazil. Today I live in Porto Alegre where I work as an arch-viz artist at a company called Neorama.

What was the workflow behind your latest gallery image? Where did the idea come from?

Fillipe

In my latest work I used 3ds Max, Corona Render, Blender, Photoshop, and Substance Painter. The image was based on a concept by artist Tim Kaminski. Lately I've been really enjoying taking 2D concepts and turning them into my 3D style and giving it my touch.

What challenges did the image present? Did you learn something new?

Fillipe

I think the biggest challenge was finishing, ha! The mix of something realistic with something stylized is also very challenging. I wanted to make an image that had my eye but without losing the essence of the artist who created the concept.

Do you use any other software, either for work or personal projects?

Fillipe

I started years ago, learning in Blender, but over time I migrated to 3ds Max because it is used more in the architecture market. Today I have studied ZBrush and I like to use Blender for modeling in my personal works

How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?

Fillipe

I always try to keep myself motivated to do personal work. It is difficult to reconcile personal life with work. I think a good way is to share your plans with people close to you, so you end up being charged and forced to finish. But there is no magic formula I think, just sit your butt on the chair and do it!

What are your artistic ambitions?

Fillipe

I think my biggest ambition is to get to a point where I can work healthily and have more time to study and focus on my personal projects.

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Fillipe

I find it hard to point out artists; there are companies I admire too much: Brick Visual, Tomorrow, Archi9, Beauty and the Bit, Mir. But today in my personal works I try to escape architecture a little, so I end up going after other more varied artists than I usually follow in my professional work.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Fillipe

I think in my next jobs I want to do really big things that take time, but in the end it needs to be worth looking at and something I can be proud of.
