Thank you for sharing your journey so far with our readers. Let’s begin: please introduce yourself and let us know how long ago your journey started? What drew you to art? Any early influences?

Fellipe

First of all Happy New Year and thanks for the opportunity. My name is Fellipe Beckman, born and raised in Brazil. I’m currently working as an Environment Generalist at Framestore, Montreal. I started my journey at a young age. I used to draw a lot, illustration was my first passion in the art world even not knowing that someday it would become a profession, unfortunately I didn't pursue illustration as a profession thanks to CG. Yeah! Once I discovered computer graphics I basically started to devote all my time to it. No regrets to be honest. In the CG world I gave my first steps in mid-2004 so it's been awhile since.

Do you still have any early artwork? We’d love to see your early work, be they digital or traditional. How do you feel about these works now?

Fellipe

Yes! Sure. Bittersweet feelings about old artworks. I like some, hate a few!  I have been hard on myself since I started. In my personal opinion it helped me improve my skills. But it's all part of the artist's evolution. Eventually I revisited some old works. It’s good to notice some improvements.

What training or learning did you do in those beginning stages? Could you see your progression?

Fellipe

Just recently I did some training (Fly Art Matters) from Kris Costa A.K.A Antropus, which was pretty cool and gave me a lot of new tricks. But sadly when I started I couldn't afford training, workshops or anything related to art. I had to learn by myself which made my learning progress pretty slow.

Can we see some of your progression artwork? Where did you think you were improving? And where did you need to improve upon?

Fellipe

Yes! Sure. I was my latest finished personal project. I started while working on the movie itself back at DNeg Vancouver. But the most recent project is this fairy character which is still in progress, expect to finish anytime soon.

Were you always happy with what you produced, or was there a turning point where you thought; “This is it, I’ve made it!”?

Fellipe

Honestly not always, but I could say I can see some improvement and this makes me happy. But I'm always striving to improve and it's a never ending process right? For the past years I’ve been focusing more on my professional work and have hardly found time to do personal artworks. I guess a lot of people can relate.

Which piece are you most proud of, and why?

Fellipe

I would say Alita for the reason of being the most recent personal work I didn't always feel happy with the final result, but in this project I was happy to achieve what I consider a good level compared to my old artworks.

What advice would you give to any of our readers who are just beginning their journey now?

Fellipe

Be patient. People have different times, some people can improve really fast, some slower. Never compare yourself to others and try to be a better version of yourself. Learn to accept criticism and most importantly how to filter the feedback. If you aim to get a job in the industry, knowing how to deal with people will be very important.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Fellipe

A lot of professional work for sure! 2020 was a busy year for me and 2021 is just getting started.
