What was the workflow behind your latest gallery image? Where did the idea come from?

Arthur

The last image called Strangers started with a 3D blockout of the scene in Cinema 4D, which was then rendered in Octane and overpainted in Photoshop. The main source of inspiration for me are still books. I have read a lot of books about pirates lately including Captain Blood, Pirate Latitudes, On The Stranger Tides, Treasure Island, and many other classical works. So, I wanted to create an artwork about pirates exploring unknown places.

Adam

What challenges did the image present? Did you learn something new?

Arthur

It has always been challenging for me to paint water. It has a lot of different tones depending on depth and light direction. Also, you have to master your edge control to paint realistic water. So, I have struggled a lot with the latest image. I even studied paintings of Aivazovsky. I have learned a lot, but still, there is space for improvement.

Adam

How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips?

Arthur

If you’re interested in finding new clients, you have to show your work on all art-related websites. And sometimes it is really hard to stand out among those amazing artists who have worked in the industry for many years, and who are active on social media. The key idea is to publish new works on a regular basis. Don't try to create perfect artwork, just try your best and post something constantly. People have to see your work (ideally every week).

What are your artistic ambitions?

Arthur

I'm trying to learn more about the film industry. I have experience working on an indie film project, but I want to work on a big title. It would be great to be involved in a movie from the Alien franchise, for example. That would be something I could be proud of.

Adam

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Arthur

One of my favorite traditional painters is William Bouguereau. The way he works with skin tones is magic. I was astonished when I saw his painting in the museum for the first time. My current works and skills have nothing in common with William's paintings, but I love to do studies from his masterpieces from time to time.

Adam

What can we expect to see from you next?

Arthur

Probably, I will change the way I update my portfolio. I like to tell the stories through my artworks and sometimes it is just impossible to do this with a single piece. So, I am going to do a series of artworks based on the one story. It could be key arts or even concepts from just one imaginative world.
