Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where are you located?

Abhik

I am an aspiring artist and game developer, working on my own game called INCARNATION. In my spare time, I learn new tools and software to make sure I am always up to date. I work freelance for 3D printing and also for the gaming industry, and I am from Malda, West Bengal.

What was the workflow behind your latest gallery image? Where did the idea come from?

Abhik

My latest personal work is the The Pietà (Michelangelo) statue. It was a challenging work for me as it is a classical sculpture, and I hope I justified this masterpiece by Michelangelo. I really love to sculpt clothes rather than using simulation programs, so I decided to sculpt them here, and this project is a very emotional one for me.

What challenges did the image present? Did you learn something new?

Abhik

The flow and anatomy of clothing! As references are limited, I had to learn how cloth works in the real world with the folding, pressure, pinch points, underline structure, and folds type. So yes, I learned many things because you are unable to feel those if you use a simulation Software. I wonder how Michelangelo made it from the cararra marble by hand!

Do you use any other software, either for work or personal projects?

Abhik

My primary software are ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, KeyShot, Pureref, and Unreal Engine. Sometimes I use Marvelous Designer for client’s work.

How do you keep your portfolio up-to-date? Any tips? Are you a member of any social media groups? Any favorite hashtags you check on a daily basis?

Abhik

I always try to do something challenging during my spare time, quite challenging to balance between the job and updating portfolio. Still I try my best and we should do those things that we are not comfortable to work with.

Yes some art groups. Some of the hashtags I follow would be #zbrush #3Dcharacterart, and #digitalsculpting.

What are your artistic ambitions?

Abhik

Just to do some good artworks and a complete package of my game, which I hope will release soon. And I want to teach 3D to a large number of people; still in my country people are unable to peruse this as a career and it’s very underrated.

Who are your favorite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?

Abhik

There are a few artists that have inspired me along the way. Hossein Diba is a multitalented young artist with outstanding likeness and texturing skills, he inspires me on likeness most of all. James W Cain is a digital sculptor based in the UK. The composition and flow in his sculptures are phenomenal; I like his style of work, which encompasses the emotion of art, cloth sculpting, and anatomy.

What can we expect to see from you next?

Abhik

Currently I am working on my own table top miniature project and my own game INCARNATION-chapter-1, and I hope those will get released soon.
