Christopher Parnian reveals some of the inspirations and events that led him to feature in the latest volume in 3dtotals long-running Digital Art Masters series...

Could you please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you, what do you do, and where you are located?
I was born in Manila. My father is Iranian and my mother is from the Philippines. When I was six years old we moved from the Philippines to Japan, where I finished elementary school in Tokyo.

In 1991 we moved to the north of Iran and lived in a city called Sari, where I finished my high school and university education. When I was in the first grade of high school I joined track and field training, and since then I have been doing this sport. I even got titles in some competitions. I graduated in computer engineering.

I should say, unfortunately, that I'm not an employee at any company because there are no CG industry jobs in Iran. In spite of that, I occasionally work with some foreign companies as a remote freelancer.

How did you learn to create digital images?
Actually, for digital arts I didn't take any classes at any school or university. I learned it by myself, studying online tutorials and watching videos.

Who are your favourite artists, traditional or digital, and can you explain why?
Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball) is my favorite manga artist. I started reading and watching his books and cartoons in 1986 when I was six years old in Japan. I get a lot of inspiration from his drawings.

What software would you like to learn in the future to expand your portfolio and skillset, and why?
Autodesk Alias Automotive (now Autodesk AutoStudio), because you can design objects which are buildable in the real world, and also it is a software that is more precise and logical. Poly modeling is better for games and movies, and AutoStudio is NURBS or spline-based modeling. I'm going to create some stuff some day with this software.

How do you like to unwind after a hard day's (or night's) work?
Taking a rest, meeting friends, and outings to take a break from involving my mind with projects.

If you could choose any superhero power, what would you take?
I would like to be bulletproof, to arrest the bad guys and help oppressed people.
