This project was done for a final term assignment at Think Tank Training.
I chose to model, sculpt and texture an astronaut. I wanted to get it as accurate as possible when it came to recreating the suit and equipment. The reference photos were very important and I went through quite a lot of them to figure out how the suit comes together with all the tools attached to it as well.
My main reference came from a photo of astronaut Greg Chamitoff during a spacewalk to perform maintenance on the International Space Station.
I started off by modelling the hard surface components and also a base mesh for the suit in Maya. I then took those meshes into ZBrush and sculpted the suit and the fabric covering all the pieces.
UVs and retopo done in Maya, with all texturing done in Substance Painter.
