Miracle in Motionby SingleCell Animation

The human egg is the largest cell in the body and about 16x bigger than sperm cells.

The Zona Pellucida (egg wall) is the outer membrane of the egg and it’s surrounded by a few layers of smaller cells called Corona Radiata, and their purpose is suppling vital proteins to the egg.

The egg lives 12-24 hours after being released from the ovary, while sperm can survive 5-7 days, but without fertilization the egg wall hardens with time, preventing sperm from entering and ultimately is shed through the menstrual cycle.
